School Pictures

This is my absolute favorite picture of me alone!

I kept meaning to post these up here, but then I would forget once I got on the computer.

Christmas lights and Gravity....well defying it

So the title probably has you wondering what in the world I was doing today. When we got home from church, Dad went outside and was taking down the Christmas lights. We had some colorful rope lights on our back porch that were promised to go into my bedroom under my top bunk once they came down. Since they came down today, I got to put them in my room.

Now that I've explained the Christmas lights I will explain the rest. I have some piano music for a song from WICKED (a broadway musical). The song is called Defying Gravity. I was working quite diligently on learning to play it today. I adore this song so much and would love to learn it, eventually. Unfortunately, I do not have the patience to sit at my piano forever and learn a complicated song. I figured out almost a page today though in less than an hour, so that gives me quite a bite of hope. :)

Giddyups

So, this morning one of my assignments in school was to design a garden fit for Louis XIV.  He liked a lot of topiary's to say the least. There were, of course, some flowers in his gardens too though. One of my favorite flowers are Daffodils a.k.a Giddyups. I did not realize that I didn't type daffodils, but giddyups on my assignment. I decided to leave it that way, because no one is going to read it except my family and they all know what it means already.

So how did these bright yellow flowers get their curious name...well...I should say khyrious name. When I was about 7 and Caleb was about 9, Dad took us to the grocery store, which is not a rare occasion. There were beautiful jonquil daffodils on the islands in the parking lot, which is also incredibly normal. Little me, riding on his back, asked Dad "What are those flowers called?" I assume he did not hear my question and promptly replied "Giddyup!" as we ran across the parking lot.  I believed for years that is what they were really called and still call them that to this day.

The Joys of Strep

Right now I am sitting on the couch on my third day of dealing with strep throat. Unfortunately, being homeschooled means I still have to do school. It is really hard to concentrate right now because I am in and out of fevers too. Usually, I would not care if I got sick for a few days, but it is really nice outside and I really want to be enjoying the weather. I am hoping the be better by the end of the week, because we are supposed to have small group.

Operation MOMS

For our church youth group, we go to something called Operation MOMS. It is packing care packages for the soldiers. Today we went and were put on warehouse duty. Well..most of the time. My friend Kassy and I were put to packing socks into baggies by pairs. So we spent our time folding, stuffing, and squishing socks. 110 pairs of socks to be exact. That is 110 soldiers that will get a new pair of socks before Easter.

Grammar rules

This morning, Dad was typing a message to someone and said "I before e except after c." Caleb the said "But that does not apply to all words, like weird and neighbor." So the new grammar rule in our house is "I before e except after c, unless it's your weird neighbor."

Pictures, Hair cuts, and more warm weather

I went and got my school pictures today. Before pictures, I went to get my hair cut. I just got my layers redone, I did not get it cut short. When we get the pictures back, I will put them up here so that everyone can see them. There is one really cute picture of me. I am sitting on the ground with knees in front of me and I am barefoot. The picture we got of me and Caleb I am taller, which is always a little fight we have. Caleb and I are always battling to see if we can get the picture where that person is taller. Since Caleb is actually taller than me, I really like getting pictures of me being taller.

Mom is still sick, so I did not have piano lessons today. I was not horribly opposed to the idea since I did not practice as much as I should have this week. Today the temperature outside was 85 degrees! I cannot believe it is this warm out in March. It just does not feel right, but I like it a ton.

It is a wonderful day outside. Misty has been loving the weather being so nice probably more than me. We were outside today for a while running around. She was highly enjoying catching her frisbee. This is the second day in a row that I can wear shorts/capris. I officially welcome spring!

Walking, Bowties, and Piano stuff

Today we were in Downtown Joliet walking all over. I think we walked 12 or 15 blocks, at least. Did you know it is really hard to find parking there? While we were walking around, Caleb saw a shop that might sell bowties. (If you know Caleb at all, you know that bowties have become a really big deal) So he got his first bowtie today. That made him contest for the whole day.

Before Christmas, my dad and I went to Guitar Center and looked at some programs for my piano that could type out the music I was playing on my piano. Today I was told I would get my program. I was playing on it for a while, but it is really time consuming to learn the program. I figure I can take baby steps.

Jedi Misty

Misty was being cute under a blanket. We call her Jedi dog when she does this. What you cannot see in the picture is Caleb laying on the couch with a blanket and Misty is at his feet.

Misty, McDonalds, and Moon-man

Today is a gorgeous almost 70 degree day. It is really windy, but that makes it more fun. Misty does not like it at all when it is windy though. At the moment, I am sitting on the couch and she is standing on the arm rest beside me. This has been the most strange winter that I can remember. This is the second time it has been in the 60's and it is only March! Trust me, I don't mind it a bit. Earlier today we took Misty for a walk and she was running ahead of us and then bulleting back. Bulleting is when she runs as fast as she can and pins her ears to the side of her head. It is really cute.

This weekend I went to see my friend's audition for Music Man. She made it in as a towns lady. I cannot wait to go see the show. I know it will be excellent because I have been to see another show that CYT (Christian Youth Theater) has done. After the auditions, we went to dinner at Chick-fil-a and then made a quick stop at McDonalds. You are probably wondering why we would stop at McDonalds right after eating dinner. Last time we went to watch auditions we drove thru this same McDonalds and saw a curious sight. This time we wanted to get a picture.

You are probably just as curious as we were. It is a man with a moon head playing a gorgeous baby grand piano. I thought maybe the piano was a self-playing piano, but it is not. Honestly, there is no point in this strange thing, but we thought it was amusing and worth taking a picture.
